Job Title:           Supportive Housing Advocate – Bilingual (Spanish/English)

Reports To:        Director of Program Operations

FLSA:             Exempt

Status:               Full-Time

 

The Inn Between of Longmont is a non-profit Supportive Housing Agency. Together, we will work to provide supportive housing and promote stability to diverse homeless families and individuals by utilizing community resources, advocacy, and life skills training to bring an end to homelessness.

 

This position provides ongoing Supportive Housing Advocacy/Case Management services to individuals and families living at The Inn Between. This position coordinates referrals, screenings, and program activities for residents in transitional housing with supportive services. The empowerment of residents is supported by this position to increase their self-sufficiency goals. This position will implement and facilitate individual and group resident trainings.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Provides orientation for new residents with a trauma informed approach and an understanding of Motivational Interviewing.  Meets regularly with assigned residents to establish and review goals and progress. Resolves conflicts between residents when necessary.  Provides excellent customer service and communicates resident issues and concerns thoroughly with other Inn Between Staff and external agencies.

  • Completes all file and data collection responsibilities and distributes with other Inn Between Staff in a respectful manner facilitating teamwork with respect and trust.  Coordinates the collection of external Case Management progress notes and maintains files in the database.  

  • Screens and interviews potential applicants with other Program Staff to determine readiness and acceptance into The Inn Between program. 

  • Co-facilitates Referring Agency meetings with other Inn Between Staff regarding application procedures.  

  • Acts as a liaison between resident and community services, resources, and activities.  Attain knowledge of community resources; vocational services, budgeting, personal identification information, benefits acquisition, health insurance, food, treatment, etc.. Participates in housing and homeless committees as assigned. Attending meetings and seminars to obtain information useful to resident services and to further develop case management skills. Participates in, and facilitates other meetings, as assigned.

  • Assists with the coordination of resident activities, food donations, and organizing events for the residents. 

  • Provides insight and orientation to staff on how to recognize and appropriately respond in situations where a resident may be unsafe due to mental illness, drug intoxication, or other potentially difficult encounters.  Assesses and monitors resident needs through regular contact to include crisis intervention as necessary. Intervenes and communicates through proper channels when challenging situations occur.

 

ORGANIZATION/COMMUNICATION SKILLS:  Strong organizational skills and above-average communication skills, both written and oral.  Knowledge of types of supports and training needed by a diverse homeless population.  Ability to interact with a wide variety of people.  Ability to recognize and appropriately respond to individuals with significant mental illnesses.

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

•    Bilingual – ability to converse in Spanish required.

•    Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Services related field social work, psychology, or related field            preferred and/or related years of experience.

•    Capability to interact with a diverse clientele with strong case management/advocacy                      experience.

•    Strong organization skills and above-average communication skills, both written and oral.

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

•        Master’s Degree in a Human Services related field (MSW).

•      Understanding of low income and homelessness issues.

•     Flexibility to meet the demands of a diverse clientele.

•     Proficiency in applying Motivational Interviewing and Trauma Informed Care techniques.

•     Familiarity with Mental Health Issues and Substance Abuse Recovery.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Frequent sitting, occasional walking and standing.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:  The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

•     40 hours per week, generally scheduled Monday through Friday.

•     Occasional evenings and weekends as needed.

•     Work schedule will be conducted in an office environment, community, home visits and other community                     agencies.

•     Maintain flexibility to meet the demands of a diverse clientele and community partners.

•     Attends events related to donation/fundraising activities for the Inn Between.

 

COMPENSATION:  This is a full time salaried exempt position.  Wage range $53k-$63k and is based upon experience and education. In addition, we offer a $250 monthly wellness stipend paid bi-weekly.

 

BENEFITS:  

We offer competitive pay and a comprehensive benefit package. Employee medical coverage includes health, eligible after 60 days from date of hire.  Generous PTO accrued 90 accrual begins date of hire.  Retirement benefit contributions begin 90 days from date of hire.
